Facts You Should Know About Automobile Insurance In New York State

NY lawyerI strongly recommend that you review and upgrade the coverage provided by your automobile insurance policy. First, I suggest that you increase your liability limits of coverage (bodily injury and property damage) to the maximum amounts offered by your insurance company. Also, consideration should be given to purchasing excess, umbrella or catastrophe insurance to further supplement your liability coverage. These types of coverage provide protection if you are sued by one or more people for their injuries or damage to their vehicles or property arising out of a motor vehicle accident. Also, you should verify that the limits of your comprehensive and collision coverage are sufficient to protect against fire, theft, vandalism, collision or other damage to your car.

Furthermore, it is very likely that your insurance policy does not include sufficient coverage to protect against personal injuries to you, your passengers and the members of your household. This extremely important coverage is available in New York State at modest cost. Nevertheless, many insurance companies and brokers have neglected to inform their policyholders about the availability and vital importance of this optional protection. If you, your passengers or any members of your household are injured in a motor vehicle accident, it is extremely important that your insurance policy include the types of optional coverage which protect the driver and occupants of your car, and members of your household. Accordingly, I am strongly recommending that you review your insurance policy with your broker or sales representative in order to verify that your policy provides for the following coverage in the maximum amounts available:

bulletUninsured Motorist
bulletSupplementary Uninsured Motorist
bulletUnderinsured Motorist
bulletBasic Personal Injury Protection (No Deductible and Not Managed Care)
bulletOptional Basic Economic Loss
bulletAdditional Personal Injury Protection

I sincerely wish you and your family good health and hope that none of you are injured in an automobile accident. However, if such misfortune should occur to you or any member of your household,  even if the driver at fault is uninsured, or leaves the scene of the accident, or has minimum liability coverage, a fair settlement or recovery may be possible. If an accident occurs, you should immediately report the accident to the police, and advise the police of your injuries.  Also, I welcome your prompt inquiry, so that I can most effectively protect your legal rights.
